Opportunities for Year 11

50% of year 10 students attended one or more college taster days.

They had the opportunity to sign up to:

  • Havant & Southdowns College (South Downs campus - vocational subjects, Havant campus - A Levels).
  • Portsmouth College
  • Highbury College (Northarbour campus - Construction, Cosham campus - all other subjects).

Students comments were:

I attended Biology, Chemistry, History and Maths and it has made me realised that I want to become a Marine Biologist. It has been good.

I visited 4 subjects: History, Digital Filming, Architecture and Creative Media.  They were a good taste into what I can do in the future.  I really enjoyed the experience.

I found the day good. It’s opened up other ideas for me.  I prefer this college to another one I have visited.  It felt more like college than school in terms of the lessons and the introduction into the subjects.

It was really good and I enjoyed it a lot.  It helped me to get to a better understanding of the subject I am interested in and what it will be like to study this at college.

I enjoyed visiting Southdown’s campus because it gave me a good experience and idea of what I could possibly do when I leave school.

I visited hair and beauty at Southdowns campus.  We looked at the hair salon and did some body art. In the afternoon we looked at hand and arm massage as well as nail art.  The day was enjoyable and definitely showed me other opportunities that are available to me, other than apprenticeships.  I would definitely consider this college if I’m not successful in securing an apprenticeship.  Today was really enjoyable and informative.

I enjoyed my college taster event because it was a great experience and gave me a better understanding of what I can do when I leave school.

It was really fun.  The lectures were interesting and helpful.  I enjoyed my time there.

I really enjoyed my experience today.  It was lots of fun.  The staff were fun to talk to and they were very understanding.

I enjoyed the first session as we had to solve a crime.  I’m defiantly considering taking Forensic Science when I leave school.
