Y11 student to train for the boxing England Talent Pathway Squad.

As well as celebrating students achievements in school It's also great to hear about the achievements of students who are doing well in clubs outside of school hours. Well done to Tilly Hymers, Y11, who in her psare time belongs to a boxing club and has already achieved 2 wins in 2 weeks, a brilliant start to the season. Tilly will get to train in Dagenham on Saturday with the England talent pathway squad. This event allows the induction of more boxers into the Talent Programme and allows the programme to be tailored to the boxer’s ability, requirements and future potential.

Castle View Academy Student Named British Wheelchair Basketball’s “Female Player of the Year”

Castle View Academy is celebrating after one of its very own students was named British Wheelchair Basketball’s “Female of the Year”.

Year 11 student Maddison Martin, who was born with Spina Bifida, was given the prestigious Peter Jackson Female Player of the Year Award at the British Junior Wheelchair Championships at the beginning of August.

Maddie, who was inspired to get into wheelchair basketball after watching the 2012 London Paralympics, has had a highly successful year competing in the national GB team as well as the South East regional team.

The award recognised how rapidly Maddie has risen up the ranks of wheelchair basketball.  Starting her career at an accessible disability sports club where she played for fun, Maddie has trained exceptionally hard to become an U24 GB International and U24 European Gold medal winner.  Her incredible journey has been shared across the global wheelchair basketball community with well-renowned Turkish Wheelchair Basketball player Murat Sultan writing a piece in Turkish media.  Japanese Para Sports Magazine has also recently posted about Maddie and her amazing journey.

Maddie has now set her sights on being selected for the GB Team at the Tokyo Paralympics next year.  She’ll be training hard to achieve this goal whilst also studying for her GCSEs next summer.

Christian Down, Principal of Castle View Academy, said:
We are all incredibly proud of what Maddie is achieving.  Her determination to overcome any obstacle and reach her goals is truly astounding.  She is an inspiration to everyone within the school and we wish her all the best as she seeks to secure a place at the Paralympics.

LionHeart Challenge 2019

Our Year 9 students took part in the LionHeart Challenge on the 15th July. This involved students taking part in a high energy business challenge, working together in groups, to come up with a business proposal based on a social theme that they consider to be important to them.
