Castle View Academy celebrate record breaking GCSE success

Students at Castle View Academy (formerly King Richard School) are today celebrating their best ever GCSE results.  50% of students at Castle View Academy achieved A*-C grades (4 or above) in both English and maths; a significant increase on results from previous years.

The academy is equally delighted with the number of students achieving the government’s 5+ (B grade or above) threshold within English or maths.  In English, a record 48% of students surpassed the 5+ measure and in maths an impressive 30%.

There was significant success beyond the core subjects with ‘best ever’ results in Triple Science, Higher Mathematics, Dance, Drama, Media Studies and Physical Education.

Individual student successes included:

  • Georgie Freeland, who was awarded two 8s, four 7s and three 6s;
  • Beth Baxter, who came away with one 9, one 8, two 7s and four 6s;
  • Daniel Verney, who achieved eight 6s.

Congratulating students and staff at the academy, Principal Christian Down said:

We are immensely proud of all of the students at Castle View Academy who have shown great commitment to achieve such strong results.  In a year where the school has transitioned to becoming part of United Learning, moved mid-year to a new location and experienced a change of leadership, the results achieved are very promising.

“Students and staff have worked exceptionally hard in preparing for these new challenging GCSE courses and I am delighted to see such exceptional performance.  It is excellent to know that students have secured results that will help them move on successfully to the next phase in their education. Well done class of 2018.”

Dame Sally Coates - Director of Secondary Education said:

“I am thrilled by the progress that King Richard pupils have made since the school joined the United Learning family. These results enable King Richard students to continue their education at sixth form colleges around the city and will provide a strong foundation for sustained success at Castle View Academy. There is no secret to exam success - it’s down to the hard work and commitment of pupils and their teachers over 5 years.  Today’s results show what the young people of Paulsgrove are capable of and I am excited to see Castle View Academy build on these solid foundations in the years ahead.”
