Castle View Academy Students Receive Life-Saving Training

During a LifeLine workshop, HIOWAA paramedics taught students about the mechanics and procedures of dealing with day-to-day emergencies.  Wearing full HIOWAA equipment and kit, the students then practised carrying their class-mates on a stretcher and in the process learnt how important it is to secure them tightly!

As well as learning these important skills, the students were also told about how the charity works.  With it costing £9,000 a day to operate the air ambulance, 30 Castle View students have committed themselves to raise funds to support HIOWAA.

Student Lauren said:

‘The workshop really opened my eyes and showed me what it is like to work for the air ambulance.  The staff and paramedics are fantastic and I can’t wait to start fundraising for them so they can continue their vital work.  I am now looking into a career with HIOWAA and who knows – I could be their first female pilot!’

Christian Down, Principal of Castle View Academy, said:

‘It was a pleasure to welcome HIOWAA to our academy.  The ambulance service does fantastic work and it was important for our students to hear first-hand what they do.

‘Running workshops such as these is part of the academy’s commitment to providing students with an Education with Character.  We are determined to provide our students with an education which challenges, inspires and engages them and develops their character, compassion and service.  This workshop has given our students an insight into a rewarding career and it is great that a number of them now want to find out more about what a career in the air ambulance might involve.  I am also particularly pleased that so many have been motivated to start fundraising for the charity.  As a school at the heart of our local community, Castle View Academy is very proud to support local charities that provide such a critical service.’
