Castle View Academy Welcomes the Red Box Project

On Tuesday, 13th November Jeanette Levers and some of our students welcomed to school the coordinator for the Red Box Project along with the BBC to film a news article for the BBC news, due to be aired on Thursday, 15th November at 6.30pm.

The Red Box Project is an initiative that ensures no young woman misses out on her education because of her period. The project, which is 100% community driven and run by individuals across the UK, ensures Red Boxes of sanitary wear are available in schools for young women to access, aiming to reach those who may not be able to afford these vital items.

The initiative has become an integral part of the academy with the free provision and support through the project making an impact on academy attendance which has increased since the project was implemented here at school.

Anna Miles, co-founder of The Red Box Project, said:

"I got to meet three, and I really mean this, inspirational young ladies who spoke with eloquence and such strength and honesty about how The Red Box Project has helped them in so many different ways. I was left a blubbering mess as I listened to their words, as Rebecca was too!  I have to also express how special the Welfare and Medical Officer was. Jeanette, you are a rock for every single one of the pupils you care for and your warmth radiates through each interaction I witnessed you having with the many young people that walked through your door."

Tune into BBC South Today tonight at 18:30.
