Break and Lunch Times

Starting secondary school can feel like a big change, but break and lunchtime are designed to help Year 6 students settle in, relax, and enjoy time with friends during the day.

Students have two breaks each day:

  • Break time: 11:35am – 11:55am
  • Lunchtime: 1:10pm – 1:40pm

These breaks give students time to rest, eat, and get ready for their next lesson.

Food and Drink

Students have several options for food at lunchtime:

  • Food can be purchased from the canteen in the main atrium
  • Students can also buy food from the food pod under the canopy on the hard court
  • Students may bring a packed lunch from home, provided it is nut free, as we are a nut‑free school

Students who are eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) can use their FSM balance to purchase food from the canteen. To get the best value from their balance, FSM students are encouraged to choose a meal deal. More information about what this includes can be found on the School Lunches page of our website.

Staff are available to help students who are new and may feel unsure about where to go or how to use the canteen.

What Can Students Do at Break and Lunch?

Break and lunchtime are opportunities for students to:

  • Eat and drink
  • Use the toilets
  • Spend time with friends
  • Take part in clubs or activities

These times are important for helping students feel comfortable, build friendships, and enjoy their school day.

Feeling Safe and Supported

Staff are on duty during break and lunchtime to supervise and support students, helping everyone feel safe and confident. Students are encouraged to use these times responsibly so they return to lessons on time and ready to learn.

Breaks quickly become part of a familiar routine and play an important role in helping Year 6 students settle successfully into secondary school life.
