SCHOOL CLOSURE - THURSDAY 2ND NOVEMBER

Within the last hour, we have received a communication from Portsmouth County Council that included the following message:
Following the latest updates, the decision has now been taken to declare a Major Incident from 00:00 on Thursday. Whilst the council is not recommending a blanket closure of schools tomorrow, all schools are recommended to carefully review their business continuity plans and staff plans to satisfy themselves as to whether they are able to safely open and staff their sites on Thursday 2 November 2023.
Since then, we have found out that all schools in Southampton and E Sussex will be closed.
I have been in conversation with fellow local heads in Paulsgrove to decide on a joint response to the emergency. We have decided to close for tomorrow.
Students should access work via the Student Portal on the school website. They can follow their school timetable to guide which lessons they should use. Year 11 could also use this time to focus on their independent revision for next week's mock examinations.
We risk assessed the situation and made the decision to close on the basis that there was a strong possibility that children could be hurt on their way to/from school by e.g. flying debris/falling branches and we wanted to remove the possibility of that happening.
Thank you in advance for your understanding.
