Admissions

The aim of our school is to make joining it as easy as possible. This is achieved through a carefully planned induction programme which aims to secure a smooth transition from Year 6 into 7, or in the case of in-year transfers, from one secondary school to another. The school recognises that the step from a small primary school to a larger secondary school is a huge one, and we want our students and their families to feel supported as they make the transition.

Year 6 into Year 7

In the early part of the autumn term, parents of students in Year 5 and 6 are welcome to visit the school. We have an Open Evening where parents and future students can experience the curriculum through fun activities and get a taste of what it would be like to be a Castle View student. The Principal will address parents during the Open Evening and members of staff, students and parents will be available to answer questions and discuss school life throughout the evening. If you would like to see the school in action, talk to senior staff and take a tour of the buildings and grounds, please book a visit at your convenience as every day is open day.  This can be arranged by contacting our reception desk on reception@castleviewacademy.org.uk.

The links between primary schools and Castle View Academy are excellent and primary-secondary transition is at the heart of these relationships. During the summer term, the Head of Year 7 and the Key Stage 3 Manager of the incoming Year 7's will visit students at their primary schools and Year 6 students will also have an opportunity to visit Castle View for a ‘Transition Day’.  New students will have the chance to meet their form tutors and will experience a typical school day. To follow this, an induction programme takes place in the first few weeks of the autumn term.

In-Year Transfers

As the community becomes aware of the exciting education we offer here at Castle View Academy , we find that more and more students are applying to join us from other schools.  This is because we guarantee disruption-free lessons and an education that not only builds academic achievement but also character.

Students who are considering a transfer to Castle View Academy are invited to contact our Admissions Office to arrange a tour of the building and an informal chat about our policies and procedures.  This can be arranged by emailing emma.coleshill@castleviewacademy.org.uk.

In year admissions are operated by Portsmouth City Council. Information on in year applications and the form that needs to be completed can be found at https://www.portsmouth.gov.uk/ext/learning-and-schools/schools/school-admissions.
