Careers

Our careers vision at Castle View Academy is:  To grant our students ACCess to the best life chances – we want our students to have AmbitionChoices and Confidence to be successful in future study and work.

We believe that all students at Castle View should be equipped with the ambition, choices and confidence to be successful in future study and work. We have therefore designed our Careers Education Information and Guidance (CEIAG) programme around these pillars:

  • Ambition: We will challenge students to aim high in terms of their future. Students will explore their own interests to find a sector that they will enjoy working in. Local career and labour market information will allow students to find companies and roles available in the local area. Students will be supported and encouraged to aim high in their chosen sector.
  • Choices: Students are given extensive guidance and access to a wide range of employers and education providers to ensure they have social capital and can make decisions that will give them the best life chances.
  • Confidence: We believe that by following the Education with Character path we are giving our students the confidence to be more successful in their personal, educational, and professional life.

Our careers programme is written around the Gatsby benchmarks for Good Career Guidance:

  1. A stable career programme
  2. Learning from career and labour market information
  3. Addressing the needs of each student
  4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
  5. Encounters with employers and employees
  6. Experience of workplaces
  7. Encounters with further and higher education
  8. Personal guidance

Careers Team

The academy places a premium on the design and delivery of high quality CEIAG for all students at KS3 and KS4.

The Qualified Careers Leader, Louise Abbott, has leadership and management of CEIAG and is supported by a memember of the senior leadership team on raising participation and ensuring all students experience a high level of careers education whilst at the academy.

The academy provides Independent Careers Advice from Louise Abbott, a Level 6 qualified Careers Adviser, and all students will have at least one meeting with the Careers Adviser before they leave in year 11.  The role of the Careers Adviser is to provide impartial information, advice and guidance for students and support the application process and planning of post-16 options.

The academy works closely with external providers such as The University of Portsmouth, The University of Southampton, The University of Bournemeouth, City of Portsmouth College, South Hampshire College Group, Havant & South Downs College, UTC, Sparsholt and a number of other local training providers to ensure that student transition is smooth and that students have a good knowledge of the courses and training that each establishment provides.  All members of staff are expected to contribute to CEIAG through their roles as tutors and subject leaders.

Careers Partnerships

Careers & Enterprise Company: we are proud to work in collaboration with the Careers & Enterprise Company. This is delivered through their network of Careers Hubs that bring together schools, colleges, employers, and apprenticeship providers in local areas across England, working in partnership with Local Authorities and, Local Enterprise Partnerships to connect with local skills needs.

To help implement the government’s Careers Strategy and the Gatsby Benchmarks we work closely with the Solent Hub Enterprise Coordinator, who helps to ensure delivery of a high quality CIAG (Careers Information, Advice, and Guidance) programme.

Experiences of the Workplace

Year 10 have a work experience week in the Summer Term, in addition we are working towards providing an extra 5 days' worth of workplace experiences for all students over their time with us to broaden their view of the jobs and careers available to them and widen their aspirations and ambitions. If you or your company would like to be involved in this, please get in touch with Louise Abbott.
