Their Big Idea focuses on improving the mental health of homeless residents in homeless shelters by teaching them how to grow and maintain their own vegetable gardens at 3 different locations across the city with an aim of improving their mental wellbeing.
They were one of 12 finalist teams from across the country who pitched their Big Idea to a panel of 7 judges from companies that included SGN, Tarmac, IGEM, Mears and Brammer Buck and Hickman. This competition has seen over 1000 teams (4000 students) take part from all over the UK and we are proud to announce that Skills4Change placed 3rd at this prestigious event!
The judges were impressed with the quality of their 11 page business plan and the support they have already mustered from local MP, Stephen Morgan, and waste management company, Helistrat. They were judged on the achievability, benefit, creativity and sustainability of their project and were specifically commended for having a project that was simple but highly impactful.
Well done to Jack, Phoebe, Martina and Margarida for their hard work in putting this project together and for delivering their presentation with flair and confidence.
