In January 2020 we introduced a cashless system in school which uses biometric data (a digital fingerprint signature), linked to a student’s account, to pay for food.
The biometric data is collected by a company called CRB Cunninghams. Students, parents and staff can rest assured that the fingerprint images cannot be used by any other source for identification purposes. The system uses an image of the fingerprint to create a mathematical algorithm and then discards the fingerprint, using only the numbers that remain and these numbers cannot be reinterpreted back into a fingerprint image. This means the scanner at the till points can recognise your child’s fingerprint but there is no way this information can be used for any other type of identification purposes. The information will be deleted when your child leaves Castle View Academy.
It is important to note that parents/carers need to give permission for this biometric data to be collected. If we do not receive permission, we will not be able to scan a student's digital fingerprint signature which means they will not be able to purchase food from the canteen, unless they ask for a pin instead. Students who are entitled to Free School Meals will automatically have £2.05 added to their account every day for that day’s spending. Unused FSM money does not accumulate and roll over to the next day.
Top-ups can be made in various ways i.e. online, at a machine located in school or at the same place where electricity is topped up. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
