You will be aware that we currently operate a system in our canteen where students pay by cash for the food they purchase, or by school card if they are a Free School Meal (FSM) student. From Tuesday, 7th January 2020 we will be operating a cashless system in school which uses biometric data (a digital fingerprint signature), linked to a student’s account, to pay for food.
The biometric data will be collected by a company called CRB Cunninghams. They will be visiting the academy on Wednesday, 18th December to collect students' digital fingerprint signature. Students, parents and staff can rest assured that the fingerprint images cannot be used by any other source for identification purposes. The system uses an image of the fingerprint to create a mathematical algorithm and then discards the fingerprint, using only the numbers that remain and these numbers cannot be reinterpreted back into a fingerprint image. This means the scanner at the till points can recognise your child’s fingerprint but there is no way this information can be used for any other type of identification purposes. The information will be deleted when your child leaves Castle View Academy.
It is important to note that parents/carers need to give permission for this biometric data to be collected. If we do not receive permission, CRB Cunninghams will not be able to scan a students' digital fingerprint signature which means they will not be able to purchase any food from the canteen when we return to school in January 2020. Students who are entitled to Free School Meals will automatically have £2.05 added to their account every day for that day’s spending. Unused money FSM does not accumulate and roll over to the next day.
More details will be made available later this term on how to register for an online account. Top-ups can be made in various ways i.e. online, at a machine located in school or at the same place where electricity is topped up. If you have any questions in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
