BAE Systems is proud to work in collaboration with Castle View Academy in support of their extensive Careers and STEM provision.
Castle View's objective is to raise students’ aspirations, broaden their horizons and empower them to aim high for the opportunities available to them. We believe this complements our mission for education outreach to inform young people in schools and colleges from our local areas about who we are, engage them with what we do and inspire them to choose a career in Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths (STEM).
We trust that our own young employees make inspirational role models for other young people who are just setting out on their careers. The school supports this through both career-focused assemblies and careers and future options events, providing opportunities for our apprentices and graduates to engage with students.
As part of our 2018 Women in Engineering Day celebrations, we were very pleased to welcome Castle View Academy girls to our event for a morning of STEM challenges. Supported by their teachers, the students enthusiastically participated, engaged with our Education Ambassadors and gained a greater understanding of their career options.
Students have been introduced to the world of work at BAE Systems with work experience placements, providing them with not only informed career choices and clear routes into employment with our various apprentice and graduate programmes, but key people skills and business understanding.
Further to this, we recently established a number of successful 1-1 mentoring relationships between our employees and Castle View students which aims to increase motivation and confidence, improve attendance and raise personal aspirations. The excellent progress of one of these mentees was recognised with an Education Business Partnership “Amazing Mentee” award in 2017 following nomination by his BAE Systems mentor.
Finally, we are very supportive of Castle View's equality statement that all members of the community should be supported to achieve their potential. We believe that employee diversity enriches our organisation and aim to encourage more young women and young people from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups to participate in STEM subjects and to aspire to a career with us.
We would like to wish Castle View Academy every success as it transitions to become Castle View Academy. We hope to continue our collaboration and to retain the many mutual benefits that this brings.
