The SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) department at Castle View Academy is essential for creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment. It ensures that all students, regardless of their individual challenges, have equal access to education and the opportunity to succeed.
This department plays a key role in promoting inclusive education by integrating students with additional needs into the wider school community. It helps foster a culture of understanding, acceptance, and respect among all students and staff.
The SEND team provides tailored support to meet the specific needs of each student. This includes adapting teaching methods, offering one-on-one or small group interventions, and using assistive technologies to help students overcome learning barriers.
Teachers and staff benefit from the expertise of the SEND department, which offers training and guidance to help them support students effectively in the classroom. This collaboration ensures that teaching is accessible and engaging for everyone.
The department also works closely with families, involving them in planning and decision-making. This partnership helps ensure that students receive consistent support both at school and at home.
The SEN department is located on the first floor near English department. There is an Intervention room for small group work, the Learning Space, and the SENCO’s office. The Learning Space can be used for social times at break and lunch for students to eat their food and chat with friends. Laptops are available to use in the Learning Space or borrow for use in classes. Some students are allocated laptops to help with their classwork. There is always at least one member of staff in the Learning Space. You can find Mrs Benger and Miss Sitch in the office next to the Intervention Room.
